Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons Children and Family Fund at Seamen’s Society

Memorializing the long-time support of Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons and continuing the family legacy, this unique fund provides memorable experiences for our youth.

Memorializing the long-time support of Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons and continuing the family legacy, this unique fund was launched in 2021 as a cornerstone of Seamen’s Society’s 175th anniversary celebration. Since its inception the Fund has provided 67 children with opportunities that include summer camp, community sports programs, music lessons, and afterschool activities. In addition, the Fund generously supported three fun-filled trips into Manhattan for our teens.

The Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons Children and Family Fund at Seamen’s Society was established by their children, Laura L. Volsario and Robert J. Fitzsimmons, Jr., to continue the Fitzsimmons’ family legacy of supporting children and families.

Barbara and Robert Fitzsimmons

Mr. and Mrs. Fitzsimmons were both very involved with Seamen’s Society. The late Mr. Fitzsimmons ran holiday parties for the children, organized the annual calendar drive, and helped secure the agency’s current office building on Bay Street. The late Mrs. Fitzsimmons served on the Seamen’s Society Board of Managers in the 1980s and its Advisory Board in the 1990s.

The Robert and Barbara Fitzsimmons Children and Family Fund at Seamen’s Society funds unique experiences — including cultural, educational, and recreational activities — for children and families in the organization’s care.
